See the world on two wheels
Vieste and the Gargano offer mountain biking enthusiasts the chance to ride along superb routes in close contact with unique natural surroundings. For example, if you want to get lost in the colours of the coast, an easy and scenic route leads to the discovery of the Gargano trabucchi, the ancient fishing ‘machines’ spread along the coast from Vieste to Peschici. Or you could take a trip inland to the north of Vieste, slowly leaving the coast and passing through flat green stretches of woods and olive groves, before entering the primeval Umbra Forest. The Umbra Forest, a few km from the sea in Vieste, is an immense green oasis of more than 10,000 hectares with thousands-of-years-old beech and yew trees, inhabited by extraordinary wildlife including the Italian roe deer, the wild cat and many species of woodpeckers. A true paradise for mountain bikers and trekking enthusiasts, who, thanks to numerous well-marked routes, can discover the area of the lake, reach the highest point at almost 800 m, visit picturesque medieval villages in the woods, or explore the most well-hidden and wild areas of the forest.
